GCN 3 (Tonga) · 2015
The R9 380 was a mid-range desktop card built on AMD's GCN 3 "Tonga" architecture, with 1792 cores and 4GB of GDDR5 across a 256-bit bus delivering 182.4GB/s of bandwidth. In 2015 that was enough for solid 1080p gaming at high settings in most titles of the time.
Its 190W TDP meant it needed a proper desktop case with adequate airflow and power delivery - this was never a laptop part. Measured against today's games, it's aged into entry-level territory, but it remains a reasonable reference point for mid-2010s desktop GPU performance.
Light gaming and everyday graphics at lower settings.
4 GB GDDR5 memory.
