A step below the 390X, the R9 390 trims core count to 2560 and clocks slightly lower, while keeping the same generous 8GB GDDR5 and 512-bit memory bus as its higher sibling - effectively prioritizing memory bandwidth over raw shader count at a lower price. Architecture and bandwidth are shared with the 390X, so the performance gap between the two was smaller than the core-count difference alone would suggest.
Like the 390X, its 275W TDP keeps it strictly in desktop territory with real cooling requirements. It was a capable 1080p-to-1440p gaming card for 2015, and the large VRAM pool has helped it remain usable in memory-hungry titles longer than many contemporaries.
