GCN 2 (Hawaii) · 2015
AMD's R9 390X was the flagship of the GCN 2 "Hawaii" based R9 300 series, built around a generous 2816 cores and 8GB of GDDR5 on a wide 512-bit bus pushing 384GB/s of bandwidth - specs that were unusually VRAM-rich for a 2015 card. That memory headroom helped it age better than some same-era rivals in higher-resolution and texture-heavy games.
The tradeoff was power: at 275W, the 390X ran hot and demanded serious case cooling and a solid PSU, strictly a desktop part. It was a strong 1440p performer in its day, even if modern titles have long since moved past what it can comfortably handle.
Light gaming and everyday graphics at lower settings.
8 GB GDDR5 memory.
Push performance beyond base clock.
PCIe 3.0 x16
Mainstream desktop power draw with solid headroom for upgrades.
The AMD R9 390X is a entry-level dedicated GPU with 8GB of GDDR5 memory, suited to light gaming and general-purpose display output.
