RDNA 3 (Phoenix2/Hawk Point) · 2023
The Radeon 740M is AMD's entry-level integrated GPU built on the RDNA 3 architecture found in the Phoenix2/Hawk Point mobile chip family. With 256 compute units and a 2.2GHz boost clock sharing system memory rather than dedicated VRAM, it's positioned as a basic graphics option for budget and mainstream thin-and-light laptops rather than a gaming-focused chip.
Built on a 4nm process, it's efficient enough to stay out of the way of battery life while handling everyday tasks - web browsing, video, office work, and light photo editing - comfortably. It's the smaller of AMD's RDNA 3 integrated options, so buyers after stronger integrated graphics should look toward AMD's higher core-count Radeon M-series chips instead.
Being RDNA 3 based, it carries AMD's hardware ray accelerators and supports FSR 3.1, which layers software-driven Frame Generation on top of temporal upscaling - a real step beyond FSR 2's upscaling-only approach found on older Vega-based integrated graphics, even if this chip's modest core count limits how much ray tracing or frame generation can actually accomplish in practice.
