Xe-LP (DG1) · 2020
Iris Xe Max (codenamed DG1) was Intel's first modern discrete GPU aimed at laptops, launched in 2020 alongside the original Iris Xe integrated graphics it shares its Xe-LP architecture with. It pairs 96 execution units with its own 4GB of LPDDR4X memory over a 128-bit bus, rather than sharing system RAM like Intel's integrated chips.
With a 25W power budget and modest bandwidth, it never aimed to compete with entry NVIDIA or AMD discrete GPUs on gaming performance - its appeal was Intel's "Deep Link" technology, which let it work alongside the CPU's integrated graphics for extra video encoding and light creative-app acceleration. It appeared in only a handful of laptops before Intel moved on to its Arc-branded discrete GPUs.
