Ampere · 2020
Launched in 2020 as part of NVIDIA's Ampere-based RTX 3000 desktop lineup, the RTX 3070 pairs 5,888 CUDA cores with 8GB of GDDR6 across a 256-bit bus (448GB/s of bandwidth). At the time it matched or beat the previous-generation RTX 2080 Ti at a fraction of the price, and it still handles 1440p gaming at high-to-ultra settings in most titles today, with ray tracing usable when DLSS is available.
With a 220W TDP it needs a desktop case with real airflow and a decent power supply - this is not a chip that shows up in laptops. For 1080p esports titles it has plenty of headroom to spare, and it's a sensible mid-range pick for anyone building rather than buying a laptop.
Smooth 1440p gaming and solid creative app performance.
8 GB GDDR6 memory.
Push performance beyond base clock.
PCIe 4.0 x16
Mainstream desktop power draw with solid headroom for upgrades.
The NVIDIA RTX 3070 is a upper mid-range dedicated GPU with 8GB of GDDR6 memory, suited to mainstream gaming and everyday graphics tasks.
