Ada Lovelace · 2023
The mobile RTX 4090 is the flagship of NVIDIA's mobile Ada Lovelace lineup, built around 9,728 CUDA cores, 16GB of GDDR6, and a 256-bit bus giving 576GB/s of bandwidth - a cut-down version of the desktop 4090's core count, reworked to fit inside a laptop's thermal limits. It's the fastest graphics option a gaming laptop can currently offer, comfortable at 1440p ultra and capable at 4K with DLSS 3 enabled.
As with the rest of the mobile Ada lineup, its power limit is laptop-specific; 150W here is a typical configuration, and the exact wattage a given laptop runs it at matters more to real-world performance than the model name alone does.
Even as the fastest laptop GPU around, this chip leans on DLSS 3's Frame Generation to make 4K viable - a dedicated Optical Flow Accelerator inserts newly generated frames on top of the Super Resolution, DLAA and Ray Reconstruction that DLSS 2 cards already had, with hardware ray tracing cores giving that reconstructed lighting real data to work from.
Laptop manufacturers configure this GPU's power limit (TGP) per model. The 150W figure above is a typical point within the chip's published TGP range - actual power limits, and real-world performance, can vary significantly between laptops using the same GPU name.
Strong 1440p/4K gaming and demanding creative workloads.
16 GB GDDR6 memory.
Push performance beyond base clock.
Soldered (Mobile)
Real-world specs can differ by laptop model - see the note above.
