AMD Ryzen 7000 Series · Zen 4 (Dragon Range)
The Ryzen 9 7940HX is a 16-core, 32-thread processor from AMD's Dragon Range family, launched in January 2024 as a slightly lower-clocked sibling of the Ryzen 9 7945HX. It runs from 2.4 GHz up to 5.2 GHz at a 55 W TDP (configurable up to 75 W) and uses AMD's Zen 4 cores built on a 5 nm process.
It carries 64 MB of L3 cache, a dual-channel DDR5-5200 memory controller and 28 lanes of PCIe 5.0, with only a minimal Radeon 610M integrated GPU, so it is meant to be paired with a discrete graphics card in gaming and workstation laptops where heavily threaded work such as rendering and compiling benefits from the full 16 cores.
Up to 5.2 GHz boost clock.
Supported memory generations. Soldered (LPDDR) or upgradeable depends on the laptop.
